Create VASA Replication Groups

VMware vVols enables data replication, snapshots, and encryption to be controlled at the VMDK level instead of the LUN level, where these data services are performed on a per VM (application level) basis from the storage array.

Prerequisites

  • The storage system must be running PowerMaxOS 5978 Q3 2020 or later, and must be VASA async SRDF capable.

To create a VASA replication group:

Steps

  1. Select the storage system.
  2. Select Storage > vVol Dashboard.
  3. Click Storage Containers.
    The Storage Containers list view is displayed.
  4. Click Create VASA Replication Group.
    The Create VASA Replication Group wizard is displayed.
  5. Select the Communication Protocol.
  6. Select the Remote Array ID. To update the list of remote systems, click Scan.
  7. Enter a value for the Replication Group Label.
  8. Optional: Hover over a row in the Remote Storage Container table and an Info icon becomes visible. Click the icon to view additional Storage Container details.
  9. Select a Remote Storage Container.
  10. Click NEXT.
  11. Select the Replication Group Number and one or more local ports.
    Select local and remote ports (see step 14) with visibility to each other. If they are not visible to each other, the VASA replication group creation fails.
  12. Optional: Click the Advanced Options button and set the Link Limbo Period for the local link.
  13. Click NEXT.
  14. Select the Replication Group Number and one or more remote ports.
    Select local and remote ports (see step 11) with visibility to each other. If they are not visible to each other, the VASA replication group creation fails.
  15. Optional: Click the Advanced Options button and set the Link Limbo Period for the remote link.
  16. Click NEXT.
  17. On the Summary page, review the details.
  18. Optional: select the Use Software Compression checkbox.
  19. Optional: select the Hardware Compression checkbox.
  20. Do one of the following:
    • Click Run Now to perform the operation now.
    • Expand Run Now and click Add to Job List to add this task to the job list, from which you can schedule or run the task at your convenience. For more information, see Schedule jobs and Preview jobs.
